Every day I wake up to the sound of a doorbell ringing, which means it’s 7:15am and my niece and nephew have arrived for the day. I’m not a morning person so waking up early and getting dressed is completely out of the question. Messy hair, mascara running down my face, pajamas and a half smile is what I use to welcome the kids. I let them watch tv quietly until Madison wakes up usually between 730 and 8. Then I go get her and the twins, it usually takes 2-3 trips going up and down the stairs. I then make the boys their bottles and feed them, then I’m off to feed the big kids. I pour the cereal and answer the every morning question of who gets to get the spoons, then in between I try and make my coffee and find some sort of breakfast before the kids start saying they are full or Madison starts yelling “DOWN!”. Then we go and play in the toy room and downstairs family room until our 930am nap time. During these two hours of nap time, I am usually feeding the twins their next feeding, cleaning the house, blogging/social media, or getting dressed. Yes, sometimes (ok, most days) getting dressed is just not on my to-do list, I got way more important things to do and besides pajamas are comfy and no one sees me anyways, so what’s the point haha. Once the kids wake up around 1130am its immediately lunch time because madison starts yelling “eat”, the kid knows and LOVES her schedule. I make all the kids lunch and again in between the giggling, fighting and questions I try and find something to eat for myself. After lunch which is usually pretty fast because the girls are super picky and don’t eat much and Jaxon eats everything super fast, I try and get the kids to clean up the toy room and family room so we can go play outside. The weather has been nice so water play is always what the kids want to do, so they get their swimsuits and sunscreen on and I get the twins in their bouncers and we all go outside for a couple hours. We got a big backyard with tons of toy cars, houses, basketball hoops, tons of play balls, a kid rollercoaster, a water play table, a little swimming pool… we LOVE it outside. I just introduced the twins to baby food and so around 1pm is when I feed them in their bouncers. It gets pretty messy so outside time is the perfect time to feed them. After outside time we used to take a second nap, but my daughter could not survive the weekends when were super busy because she would get super cranky so I am trying to just go with one nap a day in the morning. That makes my day longer and has less “me” time but it has been making our weekends a lot more fun because she is used to not taking so many naps. So now we go inside around 2 or 3 and watch a movie and have some quiet time. My niece and nephew are so used to taking a nap, they usually fall asleep anyways. Which is nice because it gets pretty loud in the house with all three of them up. Once again more house cleaning and laundry are happening at this time because it’s never done, especially with a family of 5. Also the boys get another feeding and play time. The bigger kids are usually up around 4/430 and we eat a quick snack before their mom picks them up at 515pm. By now my husbands home and he is always a huge help. We are currently obsessed with Trader Joe’s frozen meals because they are so easy and so he usually makes us something for dinner and I try and entertain the kids until 730pm, which is bedtime. After dinner is the kid’s bath time (which does not happen every night, I’m not gonna lie haha) and getting them ready for bed. Feeding the boys their last feeding and then bringing them upstairs to their cribs, they sleep through the night now! Madison is getting really good at pro-longing bedtime with her cute little conversations and asking for eats and drinks and whatever else she can come up with but for the most part she is a great sleeper and is easy to put to bed. Then it’s “ME” time. I either do stuff on my Mac while my husband watches the basketball game (which is a totally new thing for him) or we watch a movie or something on tv together! I love that time because I get to refocus and take a little break from my mommy duties.
That’s just the days where I’m a regular mom and not a foster mom… On my foster mom days I have social worker visits, home inspections and the twin’s visitations. Those schedules are even crazier.
So that’s my day! I missed a thousand little details and maybe videoing “a day in my life” would get you a better look into what I do but that’s probably not gonna happen haha. I know every mom’s day is different but we all do the same thing… raise our children and do the best we can on the day to day schedule. Not everything is all “fun and games” about being a stay-at-home mom and when I get the question, ‘what do you do at home all day?’, it’s not like I can give you a one sentence answer. Maybe I should just carry around my schedule on a piece of paper and pop it out every time some one asks.
Being a stay-at-home mom is not easy but it’s my job and I take it very seriously. I love some days and not love some other days, I feel overwhelmed some days and completely focused other days, but one thing is for sure I am blessed to be able to stay at home and raise my children the way I choose.
