Well, we did it... It's finally done. It only took about a week. I say "it's done" meaning the main parts our done. The main parts meaning, I can now take a before and after picture because the kitchen looks amazingly different. I mean night and day. I honestly didn't think it would turn out that well because I am not a great DIYer. I have done a lot of small things but nothing like tackling this old kitchen.
Here is what we did to our kitchen:
- Painted Cabinets
- Replacing Hinges and added handles
- Painted Countertops
- Replaced sink and faucet
- Replaced Over the Range Microwave
- Bleached tile
- Added Kitchen Island
In the next few weeks I will be posting more "How-To" posts on each of the above because I know when I first started researching things like cheap countertops I had no clue there was a paint or epoxy made for countertops. So look forward to those posts and hopefully I can help some people out just like other bloggers have helped me.
It was a lot of hard work but WOW what a difference and it is totally worth it. My husband and I can't stop staring at it HAHA. We are still waiting for the countertops to set so we can actually put stuff on them so everything is basically everything but at least the kitchen looks nice lol.
Since I have a really small kitchen I really want to reorganize my cabinets and drawers so that everything has a place and it's less cluttered. So I will also be posting some organizing tips on how I will be setting up my drawers, cabinets and pantries!
A lot to come but for now enjoy my kitchen with me!!
Thanks husband and family for all your help!!

You should be very proud of yourselves! What a great frugal makeover. You will have to let us know how the countertops hold up - they look fantastic. And what a change to the cabinets - all fresh and white with lovely new hardware!
Looks great!!! We need to re-do ours too. Thanks for the inspiration! :)
Looks amazing! I'm also interested in your countertop experience (and cost - if you don't mind sharing). We still have 1970 formica counters. Not pretty.
Seriously it looks so different. I can't believe you just painted the countertops. They look totally different.
Wow that looks so awesome! I had no idea you could pain countertops!!

Wow it looks great! We've been considering doing something similar, since our kitchen is from the 50's. It has a bit of vintage charm to it, but I really would like to get away from these light wood cabinets. I love the look of white cabinets + black countertops. I'll be interested to read about how you painted everything and which products you used. I don't know if you'll be willing to share, but I'd also be interested to see how much it all cost - this is one of the things that's keeping us from getting started.
AMAZING! Super jealous....
Also, I nominated you for the Laine blogger award. Check it out here:

Oh my gosh I love it. GREAT job.
Love the cabinets. It looks really good!! Nice work!
what kind of paint did you use for the cabinets? We painted ours white and used regular wall paint and it's just not holding up well. I'm going to have to repaint them soon. :/
Yours look AMAZING great job you guys!
It looks great, I love the counter top you picked out. The white really makes the room look bigger and brighter. :)
WOW! It looks like a whole new kitchen! Fantastic job!
DANG!! Turned out awesome! :) I want to paint our cupboards really bad and add some hardware. That sounds like a good winter project. Thanks for the inspiration, and I can't wait for more tips.
I'm LOVING the change! We have a similar setup in our kitchen ( but believe it or not, your "before" looks 1000x better than ours does!). No plans yet to change anything since we're just renting, but we're hoping to buy in the next few years and then, the sky's the limit!
Girl, you kitchen looks amazing!! Great job!!

It looks so good and I agree it is totally worth it! White paint is the best ever. It brightens up the room and makes it look more cleaner and spacious. Just seeing this makes me so excited to do the minor renovation and makeover in our house. I'm gonna check out an online tool shop to get the necessary supplies we need.
Lately, I've been seeing a lot of kitchen remodels and the color of their choice is white. I think, using solid colors for the kitchen would be more applicable than those with patterns etc. There's a lot of things inside the kitchen already, but by using solid colors, it'll help the kitchen look more clean and organized.

Hey, seeing this made me want to do a kitchen makeover too! It's really gorgeous. I guess I have to convince my husband to get those tools working.

we are thinking about painting our cabinets white! do you like them? do they get dirty easily?
Frugality is an amazing gift! Do you know that? Not everyone can do that and you should be proud of yourselves. There's really not much of a difference than your old kitchen, but it does look better and prettier! I love the new paint of your cupboards, that made the biggest impact of all. Congratulations! :)

Good for you, it looks beautiful and pleasant to the eyes! Doing makeover really feels great right? We did our kitchen and bathroom a few months ago and it was awesome too, I've never been happier. What we're working on right now is having our garden landscaped. -Cadence
