Hi everyone! I'm Morgan from Modern Mommyhood.  I'm so happy to have this opportunity to post on Melissa's blog!  Hopefully I'll be able to add a smile to your day with this post!

Me and My First Classroom
Let's start with some background info on me:  I taught first grade for three years before getting pregnant and deciding to be a stay at home mom.  As I was flipping through my photos on my computer the other day, I was happy to stumble upon pictures from classroom parties and other school events over the past few years.  I often find myself wondering what those kiddos are up to and realize that the kids in my first class are now going to be 5th graders this fall.  I feel old, lol!

While reflecting on what already feels like a past life, I was reminded why I miss those six and seven year olds.  They are full of brutal honesty.  They won’t hesitate to ask you what the red bump on your face is (yep, thanks little Bobby for pointing out the giant zit that I had spent all morning trying to cover up with concealer), or even ask if you’re pregnant because your dress poofs out…I had to explain what an empire waistline was to a little girl and that I wasn’t wearing maternity clothes like her mommy (this was before I was pregnant).   Even though I was sometimes shocked by their honesty, I respected it...kiddos have a unique and pure way of seeing the world.

First graders also don’t have filters….and trust me, teachers find out about everything that’s going on in the home.  I knew when mom was mad at dad for staying out or even went to jail which led me to see the hidden difficulties that some children face at home.  But on the flip side, I’d get a giggle out of certain stories.   Once a little girl told me that her daddy had a sore chest.   Puzzled, I asked her if he was okay.  She responded by telling me that he was really hairy and mommy had to wax his chest!  Haha...I guess that's why his chest was sore.   I didn’t know how to respond to that one.

I also knew what a child watched on t.v.:

The Theme Song for COPS
And then some things were just innocent mistakes:

She Meant to Write 'Funky'
I think eventually when Mabel (my daughter) is old enough to go to school, I’ll end up going back to work.   I loved teaching and the children…and I miss it.  But right now teaching will just have to wait while I’m Mabel’s teacher for the time being.
