Picked up a Times Herald Newspaper from Vallejo, California one morning and in big bold letters were the words "Vallejo is the Second Most Dying City in America". Yes, this is the city my family represents. We moved here a couple years ago to help my dad pastor a church. We new it was going to be tough but we didn't know how tough until we arrived. Vallejo is a city filled with crime and poverty. Every day there is a new murder and/or robbery in the paper. It is a city filled with hopelessness and abandonment especially since it went bankrupt. They've been cutting funds after funds trying to get the city out of bankruptcy but the cuts are unfortunately being made in the schools and neighborhoods where it really hurts the kids.
When all pastors are fleeing the city of Vallejo, we are standing strong and praying that God will send a new hope and a new financial freedom to the city of Vallejo. My dad has made it a point to be a light into the community. We run a neighborhood watch program, thousands have passed through our food lines every Monday, and we are in the school several days a week volunteering at after school programs.
With all the we do as adults, you would be amazed at how much these teenagers do in our church. These kids wake up early every Sunday morning without the help of their parents and not only attend our church but help with lights, sound, setup at the high school, kids church, praise and worship. They are at the church several days a week to give more than just Sundays, they are a huge part of the work we do in the community.
We have a church summer camp coming up real soon and though these kids cannot afford to go, they have been collecting cans and asking around for the money in hopes to attend this camp. I thought it would be a great idea to let these kids know how much they are loved and appreciated by holding a fundraiser/giveaway on my blog to help these kids go to camp.
The cost for the camp is $165 per person. We are hoping to send 5-10 kids up to camp.
I know for a fact that if we can send these kids to camp it will change there lives. There is just something about getting away from the "real world" and going up on a hill and just giving your all to Jesus Christ. I believe that teenagers have the passion and drive to change this world, all they need is a little push in the right direction.
By giving your money to help fund their way to camp you will be entered into a raffle to win a $25 Starbucks Gift Card.
